Computers for Uganda
Computers for Uganda is a project
that will help reshape a country.

The project began in 2002 when Hon. Nsambu contacted Dr. Janet Graeber with an idea of bringing technology to Ugandan youth through a partnership between students in the United States and students in Uganda. The project has since then evolved into something neither Dr. Graeber, Hon. Nsambu, or anyone else on the team could have imagined.

I have been with the project as a technical lead since 2004, and I can say with utmost certainty that it changed the course of my life entirely—the details of which I'd prefer to go over in person if you're interested. However, in terms of the website design...it's simple, clean, and not too flashy. It was designed to bring attention to the project, and not overwhelm with design.

Share My Albums
      ShareMyAlbums.com is a photo sharing
      site like no other.

Carsten Winsnes created this project in 2004, and when I joined the team in 2005 it had a very basic, "functionality-only" design. Since then it has gone through several design changes, and more features were added thanks to a team of tireless programmers. Although I can program in PHP, I (thankfully) focus only on the design here.

As a photographer I love this site because I can easily share my photos with friends and family. But as a designer I love this project as I'm constantly learning about user-interface interaction (invaluable knowledge for any web designer) and expanding my programming skills. This has definitely been one of the most rewarding web projects for me.

Computers for Uganda Photo Journal '05
The CFU Photo Journal is a window
      into an incredible journey.

This photo journal was created with the sole purpose of bringing the Computers for Uganda project to life so that people in the States could see exactly what a team of high school students can do for a country through technology. It is a day-by-day account of the three week experience in country not only in written form but through pictures as well.

One of the original plans was to have everyone include one experience for each day of the trip, but due to time issues the end result only involved a few of the team members. The design incorporates objects used constantly on the trip and hopefully its asthetics draws people in and encourages them to read the entire story.

Constructed with: XHTML, CSS, minimal JavaScript.
